Bilateral occipital lobe infarcts

Presentation

Neck rigidity followed by bilateral vision loss since two weeks

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female

There are symmetric, bilateral hypodensities in both occipital lobes suggestive of infarcts.

No midline shift is noted.

Case Discussion

Location of the brain parenchyma changes with clinical history is typical for infarcts in the territory of the posterior cerebral arteries.

The patient has had acute bacterial meningitis for which she was admitted and this could be the cause (one of its complications).

Echocardiography and carotid Doppler were unremarkable (not shown).
