Presentation

Head trauma. The patient is under anticoagulant therapy.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female
  • symmetrical bilateral thinning of the parietal bones

  • there is no intracranial bleeding

  • no midline shift

  • age-related prominent ventricular system and CSF spaces

  • no bone fractures

  • ill-defined mass within the left superior cerebellar hemisphere with cystic changes and peripheral calcifications, that need further assessment by MRI

  • changes of right mastoidectomy

Case Discussion

Typical features of bilateral thinning of the parietal bones in an elderly patient. The evolution of this osteodystrophy is slow and progressive and may lead in severe cases to direct exposure of the brain to subcutaneous tissue and atmospheric pressure.
