Presentation

The patient is unable to speak for 24 hours. No associated motor or sensory affection.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male
mri

Abnormal signal intensity lesion at left frontal region anterior to the motor cortex and above the left insula, namely at the left inferior frontal gyrus "Broca's areas". It shows low signal on T1WI and high signal on T2WI, FLAIR and DWI and lower signal at ADC maps. 

Case Discussion

Broca's area is the cortical area responsible for speech. Insult to this area can result in motor aphasia "Broca's aphasia" in which the patient is unable to speak or to organize the muscular movements of speech.
