Bronchial foreign body

Presentation

A child came to the casualty with excessive cough. Her mother gave a history of foreign body ingestion/inhalation while playing with her pen "the bottom plastic portion of the pen".

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female

A faint isodense tubular-like structure is noted in the bronchus intermedius, partially obliterating its lumen. Otherwise, the lungs appear normal and clear. The patient was immediately referred for bronchoscopy.

Case Discussion

Inhalation of foreign bodies is common among children. This child fortunately presented acutely before any pulmonary complications occurred.
