Presentation

Left wrist pain after a fall onto an outstretched hand.

Patient Data

Age: 13 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Acute buckle fracture of the distal radial diaphysis. There is a cortical lucency extending from this fracture to the growth plate seen on the oblique view of the hand which may represent a Salter-Harris type II fracture. There is also an acute buckle fracture of the distal ulnar diaphysis, with no intra-articular extension.

Joint spaces are maintained. No suspicious osseous lytic or blastic lesions.

Moderate soft tissue edema about the distal forearm.

Case Discussion

This represents a case of buckle fracture. The patient underwent close reduction, and a short arm case was applied to the left upper extremity. Orthopedic follow-up was recommended in 4 weeks.
