Presentation

Pain and swelling of the left ankle due to falling from 2-meters height tipper today sustained an injury to left ankle & foot. On examination, swelling and tenderness on left ankle lateral side, left calcaneum and left foot.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Fracture in the left calcaneus bone, with no marked bony deformation.

The Bohler's angle is about 23 ° within normal limits.

Gissane angle is 97°, less than normal.

A swollen soft tissue at the lateral malleolus is seen.

Case Discussion

Gissane angle, together with Böhler’s angle, are commonly used to evaluate the severity of a calcaneal fracture and the goal of surgical treatment is to restore these angles to normal values.
