Presentation
Prior shoulder injury, fracture has been ruled out elsewhere. Ongoing shoulder pain and limited movement.
Patient Data
On plain radiograph striking, cloudly calcification along the expected course of the distal supraspinatus tendon is seen, favoring calcific tendonitis.
US confirms the calcification within the irregular, thickened distal supraspinatus tendon
note the striking difference compared to the healthy, contralateral side
Case Discussion
Findings are in line with calcific tendonitis, for which the distal supraspinatus tendon is a frequent location. The prior trauma can be assumed as the triggering event for the condition in this case.
