Case Discussion
This OPG shows incidental calcification of the stylohyoid ligaments bilaterally, sometimes referred to as Eagle syndrome if symptomatic. This ligamentous calcification can cause pain, cranial nerve or carotid artery compression.
It is often bilateral, usually has no obvious underlying cause and often may be asymptomatic. However symptoms can develop following regional surgery (e.g. post tonsillectomy).
