Presentation

Cough and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 10
Gender: Male
x-ray

Cavitary lesion in the left lung upper zone. Cavity is surrounded by consolidation. No air fluid level. No other lesions. No effusion. No bone lesions. Rest of the study is unremarkable.

Case Discussion

The child comes from a rural locality, where TB is endemic. Sputum analysis confirmed the presence of acid fast bacilli.

The young age, residence history and imaging characters of the lesion favor active post-primary pulmonary TB. Other differential list are less likely. These include: pulmonary abscess, cavitating malignancy and pneumatocele.
