Cervical foraminal stenosis - mild

Case contributed by Henry Knipe
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Two months of mid right neck pain associated with intermittent shoulder tingling / pins and needles.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Right C3-4 uncovertebral osteophytes results in mild right neural exit foraminal stenosis with contact but no compression of the right C4 nerve root.

Central canal and neural exit foramina are capacious at other levels.

Case Discussion

Using the Park et al. cervical foraminal stenosis system this is a mild stenosis as there is partial perineural fat obliteration of <50% of root circumference without nerve root compression. This also corresponds with the clinical assessment of right C4 dermatome symptoms.
