Presentation

Upper abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

There is interposition of right colon between diaphragm and liver representing Chilaiditi syndrome.

Multiple small rounded radiopaque opacities are also seen in right upper quadrant representing gallstones.

Case Discussion

Chilaiditi syndrome represents interposition of colon between liver and hemidiaphragm. It is differentiated from Chilaiditi sign by the presence of pain. It is vital to distinguish Chilaiditi syndrome from pneumoperitoneum by the presence of colonic haustra.
