Presentation

Right upper quadrant abdominal pain following meals.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female

US Abdominal

ultrasound

Multiple echogenic foci are seen within the gallbladder, with posterior acoustic shadowing indicative of cholelithiasis.

The right kidney measures 10 cm in length. Normal echogenicity without evidence of hydronephrosis. 1.9 cm inferior pole cyst.

Case Discussion

This represents a case of cholelithiasis on ultrasound in a middle-aged female with a medical history of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension and a surgical history of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, who presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain. The patient was advised to gradually limit fast food intake and red meat and lose weight. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was recommended in the setting the above treatment plan was unsuccessful.
