Presentation
Patient with multiple ear infections that do not respond to treatment, conductive hearing loss and dizziness. Diagnosis is confirmed by imaging studies.
Patient Data
It is observed at the level of the middle ear on the left side irregular image of soft tissue density which conditions partial erosion of the ossicular chain.
At the level of the left middle ear, an irregular occupying image of hyperintense behavior on T2 is observed, with diffusion restriction which extends towards the ipsilateral auditory tube and posterior tegmental wall, as well as post-surgical changes in petromastoid cells.
Case Discussion
Cholesteatoma consists of the presence of keratinized squamous epithelium formed and accumulated in the middle ear or in any other part of the temporal bone, so it can also be located in the external auditory canal, mastoids, and petrous bone.
They're rare but, if left untreated, they can damage the delicate structures inside your ear that are essential for hearing and balance.
