Diagnosis possible

Presentation

According to the child's parents, they have observed left-sided eye bulging.

Patient Data

Age: 11 months
Gender: Male

There is a definable, soft tissue density mass lesion that is centered on the left ethmoid sinus and nasal cavity with internal chondroid calcification and bony cortical destruction. Laterally, the mass lesion extends into the left orbital cavity with resultant mild proptosis; however, the eye globe is grossly unremarkable.

Case Discussion

CT features are more in favor of nasal chondromesenchymal hamartoma as described.

Chondromesenchymal hamartomas are rare, benign, tumor-like nasal masses in children.

The mass is typically centered in the nasal cavity but commonly also involves the paranasal sinuses, orbit, and/or anterior skull base.

CT usually shows polypoid soft tissue in the nasal cavity/paranasal sinuses showing bony erosions, internal calcifications, and cystic components
