Presentation

Fatigue, frequency of micturition and bilateral flank pain

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Bilateral increased renal echogenicity, reduced cortical thickness, reduced vascularity and loss of normal corticomedullary differentiation.

Normal renal length and position.

Case Discussion

Chronic kidney disease is characterized by progressive loss of renal function and is measured by glomerular filtration rate (GFR).

This patient had a GFR of 13.3 ml/min per 1.73 m2 consistent with end stage renal failure.
