Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
mri

L3-4: altered signal intensity of both endplates, with focal central protrusion of cartilage of intervertebral disc through vertebral body endplates, of hypointense signal in all sequences.

These protuded cartilages are surrounded by hyperintense signal of bone marrow of vertebral bodies in both T1W and T2WI, loss of signal in STIR sequences, denoting fat degenerative changes.

Degenerative changes, MODIC type II at multiple endplates.

Case Discussion

Fat changes surrounding the focal intervertebral disc herniation and interruption of intervertebral disc, denoting chronic schmorl node.
