Presentation

Painful left breast lump

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
mammography

There is focal asymmetry seen in the mid-outer breast, without associated calcifications (site of patient's complaint).

The mammogram is otherwise unremarkable.

ultrasound

At the site of the patient's complaint, there is a cyst with internal debris and surrounding echogenic fat. No internal vascularity of solid component.

The feature suggests a complicated cyst; BI-RADS III for follow-up.

Follow up after 1 month

The previously mentioned findings are no longer seen.

Follow up LMLO after 1 month

Resolution of the focal asymmetry.

Case Discussion

The ultrasound findings suggested a complicated cyst without solid component or internal vascularity, thus assigned BI-RADS III.

The patient was informed about the findings and referred for appropriate treatment and follow-up.

After 1 month the patient's clinical symptoms resolved, and so did the ultrasonic and mammographic findings.
