There is a hypoechoic tract noted extending from the skin (at the site of skin ostium) of lower back in midline to the spinal canal / dural sac at sacral region, no associated masses noted. Normal appearance of conus medullaris, it ends opposite to L2 vertebra.
Case Discussion
The aim of the ultrasound study is to identify the extension of the tract to the spinal canal to confirm the diagnosis of a dermal sinus. This differentiates it from the pseudotract which is presented as hypoechoic cord like structure connected to tip of coccyx.
