Congenital megaureter

Case contributed by Tariq Walizai
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

The patient is irritable and uncomfortable, especially during micturition, according to the parents.

Patient Data

Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
ct

There is a tortuous and markedly dilated left ureter throughout its length, measuring up to 2.7 cm in maximum diameter opposite the S3 level, along with dilatation of pelvicalyceal system. However, no radiodense calculus is seen. No cortical atrophy, which would be expected in a chronically obstructed or refluxing collecting system, is noted.

The right kidney and ureter are unremarkable.

Case Discussion

The CT features of the current study are more in favor of a left-sided primary megaureter, as detailed above.
