Case contributed by Dachani Kansan Naider

Presentation

Patient with dysphagia having long-term dilatation of the esophagus.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female
Barium

Contrast ingestion is seen passing through the esophagus slowly with abnormal primary peristalsis and asynchronous contractions that gives appearance of a corkscrew.

No evidence of tumor or external compressions along the esophagus.

Case Discussion

The esophagram demonstrates a corkscrew appearance of the distal esophagus. There are no strictures or masses seen. Given the patient's age, this non-specific finding can be secondary to presbyesophagus or esophagitis.
