Presentation

Left leg pain and tenderness following a motor vehicle collision.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

Comminuted distal fibular and tibial fractures with possible intra-articular fracture of the tibia as well as anterior subluxation of the ankle mortise.

Case Discussion

This is a case of grade 2 open tibial and fibula shaft fractures. The patient underwent surgical debridement and reduction with the application of an external fixator. Definitive fixation was done 12 days later, and a recommended 2-week orthopedic follow-up was given.
