A prominent focal bulge is seen on the lateral border of the kidney. The echogenicity of the bulge is the same as that of adjacent renal parenchyma. The calyces can be seen extending into the bulge. Normal color flow pattern is visible on Doppler examination.

Case Discussion

The dromedary hump is a normal anatomical variant of the kidney. It is essential to be aware of the condition to avoid confusing it with a renal mass. It is caused by the impression of the spleen on the superolateral border of the left kidney. Similar echogenicity and imaging features as that of adjacent cortical tissue and normal vascular flow on Doppler are helpful diagnostic clues.
