Presentation

Screening mammogram.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

Ill-defined soft tissue density in the left retro-areolar region associated with clusters of macro and microcalcifications. No other suspicious lesion is seen on either side. Multiple scattered benign looking calcifications seen in both breasts. No nipple retraction or skin thickening. Few benign looking bilateral axillary lymph nodes noted.

Irregular hypoechoic lesion measuring 12.5 x 13.4 mm seen in the left retro-areolar region. Multiple hyperechoic foci (calcifications) are seen within the lesion. No vascularity is seen within the lesion on color Doppler ultrasound examination.

Case Discussion

Imaging features are highly suspicious for malignancy. The patient underwent complete excision of the lesion and histopathology revealed ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). No evidence of invasive malignancy noted.
