Dural venous sinus thrombosis

Presentation

Headache and bilateral papilledema for one week.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
mri

Filling defects are seen in the superior sagittal sinus as well as the right sigmoid sinus. FLAIR high signal is seen along the superior sagittal sinus.

A partially empty sella sign is seen compressing the pituitary gland.

Mild tortuosity of the optic nerves with prominent CSF spaces surrounding the optic nerves bilaterally.

Optic disc bulging is appreciated bilaterally.

Case Discussion

The common symptoms of acute increase in intracranial pressure are headache, vomiting, and papilledema. In young women, idiopathic intracranial hypertension is often responsible for this entiny but; before putting this diagnosis, other causes like Dural venous sinus thrombosis should be ruled out.
