Presentation
Experiencing vaginal bleeding along with left lower pelvic pain, and B-hcg is 3081 mUI/mL.
Patient Data
The left adnexa shows a well-defined heterogenous lesion measuring about 6 x 5 x 5 cm.
The endometrial thickness measures about 0.7 cm without a definite intrauterine gestational sac.
Minimal pelvic free fluid is noted.
In keeping with the patient's history of positive beta-hCG, vaginal bleeding, and acute pain, these findings are suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy. The right ovary appears unremarkable with preserved vascularity.
Case Discussion
Ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy outside of the endometrial cavity, with possible complications such as hemorrhage and life-threatening hypovolemic shock.
The classic clinical presentation of ectopic pregnancy includes a positive pregnancy test, vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, and a tender adnexal mass.
Management is usually surgical, as in our patient who underwent salpingectomy, confirmed by pathology to be an ectopic pregnancy.
