Presentation

Daily snoring, mouth breathing, restless sleep for a long time. Sleep-disordered breathing. witnessed breath holding spells. audible breathing during day. no sneezing or allergies. was been on and off medications for a long time.

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male

Lateral soft tissue neck

x-ray

Adenoids noted indenting the nasopharyngeal air column. There is narrowing of the nasopharyngeal air column.

Enlarged tonsillar shadow also noted.

The lateral radiograph demonstrates normal cervical spine.

The prevertebral cervical soft tissues are normal.

The visualized base of skull appears normal.

The visualized facial skeleton appears normal.

Anterior cervical soft tissues appear normal

Conclusion

Enlarged adenoids narrowing the nasopharyngeal air column

 

Case Discussion

X-ray showed adenoid hypertrophy with narrowing of nasopharyngeal airway with huge tonsillar shadow.

Discussed treatment options. Since patient was been on and off medications for a long time with nasal steroids. At this point treatment plan is for adenotonsillar reduction.
