Presentation
Patient with bilateral breast implants presented with complaint of pain in the right breast. On examination: P2 lump in the right breast - To rule out implant rupture
Patient Data
Loss of smooth contour with evidence of extracapsular rupture of the right breast implant.
Smooth contour of the left breast implant. No evidence of extracapsular rupture on the left.
No suspicious findings involving the breast parenchyma.
Scanning the entire right breast parenchyma shows evidence of extra as well as intracapsular implant rupture. Silicone noted seeping into the breast parenchyma.
No suspicious focal breast lesions.
A few reactive looking right axillary lymph nodes noted.
Case Discussion
The most common presentation of patients with implant rupture is pain followed by asymmetric contour and lumpiness.
Mammography is the first investigation however it is beneficial for only extracapsular implant rupture. Normal mammograms do not rule out implant rupture. Further evaluation with ultrasound and MRI is preferred.
