Presentation

Abdominal pain, anemia and thrombocytopaenia.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Convex retrocardiac paraspinal opacity.

Bilateral thoracic paraspinal masses containing macroscopic fat.

Cirrhosis, portal hypertension, portal venous thrombosis, splenomegaly and esophageal varices.

Left nephrectomy.

Prior bowel surgery and right abdominal wall hernia.

Calcified buttock injection sites.

Case Discussion

Histology: Right thoracic paravertebral mass - The paraffin sections of the frozen section and residual tissue show fibrofatty tissue with extra medullary hematopoiesis (EMHP). There is no evidence of malignancy.

Extra medullary hematopoiesis was secondary to myelofibrosis.
