Failed medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty

Presentation

Three years ago, the patient underwent unicompartmental knee arthroplasty for anteromedial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis of the right knee. She functioned very well for 3 years until pain appeared on the medial side.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

The medial unicompartmental arthroplasty prosthesis demonstrates normal alignment without complications, and knee joint alignment is normal.

Medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty with aseptic tibial loosening, subsidence of the tibial plateau, varus angulation, and tibial stress fracture because of important varus alignment. Progression of arthritis into the lateral compartment

Case Discussion

Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty has a higher revision rate than total knee arthroplasty.
