Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
ct

An arterially enhancing hepatic mass supplied by branches of the hepatic artery with a central non-enhanced scar is present at segment III of the liver that becomes isodense with surrounding hepatic parenchyma on the portal venous and delayed phases. The scar demonstrates mild enhancement in the delayed phase.

Case Discussion

The CT findings are consistent with focal nodular hyperplasia. It is usually incidentally noted and more common in middle-aged females. The typical appearance is with their arterial enhancement that becomes isodense to liver parenchyma in portal and equilibrium phases. The central scar shows mild delayed enhancement distinguishing it from the uncommon fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma.
