Sudden onset of cough and dyspnea

Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male

  • tubular structure (15mmx 4mm) in distal tracheal lumen at the level of carina extending to proximal part of right main bronchus

  • no significant air trapping

  • unremarkable rest of study

Case Discussion

Foreign body aspiration in children is potentially fatal and immediate recognition is important. Bronchoscopy is considered the gold standard in the diagnosis of tracheobronchial tree foreign bodies with the added advantage of being able to potentially retrieve the foreign body.
