Presentation

Left plantar foot thorn injury 10 days before the presentation. Complaining of local pain.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a linear echogenic focus in the region of interest. It is a foreign body measuring about 30 mm in length. It is located in the subcutenous plane. Its superficial and distal end is 5 to 6 mm away from the skin breach. Acoustic shadowing is present. There is surrounding hypoechogenesity without abscess.
The adjacent plantar fascia and 3rd toe flexor tendon are normal. There is no tenosynovitis.

Case Discussion

A female had thorn injury to the plantar foot region. Due to local pain, she was referred for an ultrasound to rule out/ rule in a soft tissue foreign body.

Ultrasound shows a foreign body in the plantar soft tissue of foot which was retrieved surgically.
