Presentation
The patient presents with a history of a lost urethral sound.
Patient Data
The CT topogram suggests a dense curvilinear foreign body projected within the pelvis, an IUCD and a urethral catheter in situ.
The study confirms a curvilinear, dense, foreign body within the urinary bladder. There is a urethral catheter in situ and a satisfactorily sited IUCD.
There is scattered rectosigmoid diverticulosis.
There is an umbilical hernia, with herniated mesenteric fat and omentum.
Case Discussion
A case of a "lost" urethral sound. Urethral sounding is a usual medical practice to dilate or stretch the urethra in cases of urethral strictures or to remove urethral foreign bodies.
In a non-medical context, urethral sounding is the practice of inserting an object into the urethra for sexual gratification.
In this instance, it was a silicone sound, approximately 200mm in length and 7-8mm in diameter.
The device was removed during cystoscopy.
