Case Discussion

Dual-energy CT imaging has many applications in musculoskeletal imaging (e.g. Gout, bone marrow edema detection, and metal artifact reduction).  Dual energy CT has high sensitivity and specificity for gout detection reported as 78%–100% and 89%–100%, respectively 1. This useful imaging tool can aid the radiologist to early and confidently diagnose monosodium urate crystal deposition without the need of invasive techniques. It also helps to locate the gouty tophi accurately within the soft tissue and joints.
