Presentation
Remarkable bilateral eyelids swelling and puffiness, and exophthalmos with a history of long-standing graves disease.
Patient Data
There are remarkable bilateral proptosis, enlarged and prolapsed lacrimal glands, increased orbital fat extended within eyelids and anterior bulge of the eyelids, and enlarged extraocular muscles with hypodense streaks within muscles. Note also no native lens in eyes and implanted intraocular lens (IOL).
Case Discussion
The case is a 55-year-old female with a history of Graves disease and remarkable exophthalmos who underwent non-contrast orbital MDCT for better evaluation and clinical decision. Note the increased orbital fat extended within eyelids and enlarged extraocular muscles containing hypodense streaks and also enlarged prolapsed lacrimal glands. Graves disease is an autoimmune disorder and is a kind of orbital inflammatory process that mostly involves extraocular muscles and orbital fat. The MRI STIR sequence can detect the active phase of the disease.
