Presentation

Chief Complaint: Pain on the right foot after a history of injury to the right foot at workplace due to falling from ladder and twist yesterday evening. Examination: no open wound, tenderness on right foot mainly tarsal bones, hallux valgus deformity.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

X-ray shows no clear fracture or dislocation.

Incidentally: Modertae hallux valgus is seen.

x-ray

Moderate hallux valgus is seen with a first metatarsophalangeal angle of about  23°.

Case Discussion

  • An angle metatarsophalangeal of > 15° indicates hallux valgus.
  • normal: <15°
  • mild: 15-20°
  • moderate: 20-40°
  • severe: >40°
