The vagina is markedly distended with fluid content measuring approximately 15 x 8 cm (L x W). It compresses the urinary bladder anteriorly and the rectum posteriorly and elevates the uterus.
Urinary bladder catheter is in situ with diffuse wall thickening-suggesting cystitis.
Ring artefact is seen.
Case Discussion
Hematocolpos is a condition given to a blood-filled dilated vagina due to menstrual blood in the situation of an anatomical obstruction, usually due to imperforate hymen. When there is concurrent uterine distention, the term hematometrocolpos is used.
