Patient Data

Age: 16 months
Gender: Female
ct

An ill-defined heterogeneously enhancing large mass with central areas of necrosis seen arising from segment VI of the liver with a large exophytic component. The mass shows peripheral arterial enhancement with gradual filling in. Aortic artery caliber is reduced distally to the celiac axis. No evidence of calcifications.

Case Discussion

The liver is developed from both mesenchymal and endodermal tissues leading to various types of benign and malignant neoplasms. The lesions commonly seen in this age group are hemangioendothelioma, mesenchymal hamartoma, hepatoblastoma, and metastases.

Differentials for the above case:

  1. Hepatoblastoma considering the age of presentation and raised AFP

  2. Hemangioendothelioma
