Presentation
Hepatomegaly, jaundice and elevated alpha-fetoprotein.
Patient Data
There is severe hepatomegaly; mainly, the liver's left lobe is tumoral with heterogeneous enhancement. The mass is enhanced in the arterial phase, washed out in the delayed phase, and becomes hypodense compared to the rest of the liver. Portal vein tumor thrombus also is noted on the left side.
Additionally, abdominal free fluid and porta hepatis enlarged lymph nodes are seen.
Several stones are seen in the right kidney.
Ring artefact is present.
Case Discussion
The findings in a patient with jaundice and elevated alpha-fetoprotein are consistent with hepatocellular carcinoma. Note the dilated hepatic artery at the early phase, which is compatible with a hypervascular hepatic tumor.
