Iliotibial band syndrome

Swelling with edematous infiltration of the soft tissue interposed between the iliotibial band and lateral femoral condyle in keeping with an iliotibial band syndrome.
Edematous infiltration of the vastus intermedius is also noted.
Horizontal meniscal tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus extending to the inferior articular surface.
Case Discussion
Iliotibial band (friction) syndrome is a common cause of lateral knee pain related to intense physical activity in young patients, resulting in chronic inflammation.
