Presentation
Sudden onset of lumbar pain
Patient Data
Right-sided unilateral incarcerated non-fused L5 hemivertebra.
Right-sided unilateral incarcerated L5 hemivertebra interposed between the L4 and L5 vertebral bodies with fused facet joints.
Spinal column alignment is normal without evidence of deformity.
Disc dehydration is seen at the L3-L4 level.
Case Discussion
Complete unilateral failure of vertebral formation results in hemivertebrae, which can be further described as incarcerated or non-incarcerated.
The recent patient had a benign congenital spinal abnormality causing no spinal deformity which remained undetected throughout their lifetime.
