Inferior pulmonary ligament with left lower lobe collapse

The inferior pulmonary ligament is well seen in this patient with pneumothorax.
Other findings include complete collapse of the left lower lobe due to a mucous plug and a fracture of the left fourth rib.
Case Discussion
The inferior pulmonary ligaments are pleural reflections from the mediastinum which hang down from the hila and are analogous in shape to many peritoneal reflections. These two layers of pleura may extend down to the diaphragm or may have a free inferior edge1.
