The internal structure of a 3rd-generation, 16-slice multidetector, spiral CT scanner. The components are labeled as follows:

  1. X-ray tube

  2. Optics assembly (filter, collimator, and reference detector)

  3. internal projector

  4. line noise filter

  5. X-ray tube heat exchanger (mixture of propylene and glycol/water)

  6. inverter unit (converts DC to AC)

  7. high voltage multiplier (0 to 75kV) (AC to DC) (Diassembled)

  8. high voltage multiplier (75 to 150 kV) (also converts AC to DC)

  9. detector temperature controller

  10. detectors

  11. data acquisition system

  12. rotation control unit

  13. direct drive gantry motor

  14. slip rings
