Presentation

Chest pain and shortness of breath of unknown onset.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

x-ray

Limitations: Patient is rotated. Overlying cardiac monitor leads

Lines and Tubes: None

Cardiomediastinal Silhouette: Enlarged cardiac silhouette

Lung: Diffuse interstitial opacities suggestive of pulmonary edema. Bilateral infrahilar opacities which may represent atelectasis and/or consolidation

Pleura : Blunting of the right costophrenic angle suggesting small pleura effusion. No definite pneumothorax.

Bones: No acute osseous lesions.

Case Discussion

This represents a case of pulmonary edema. The patient is a 75-year-old male with a medical history of COPD, diabetes, and hypertension who presented to the emergency department with chest pain and shortness of breath. An x-ray revealed diffuse interstitial opacities consistent with pulmonary edema. The patient was treated with a short course of diuretics and antihypertensive.
