Presentation

Recurrent pain around the knee especially when flexed.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

A circumscribed ellipsoidal lesion is seen in the posterior aspect of the Hoffas fat pad predominantly low to signal void signal on T1, T2 and PD sequences, margins. No intraosseous involvement/ extension.

Osteochondral defect/ fracture is seen involving the articular surface of the medial femoral condyle

Mild joint effusion is noted.

Case Discussion

Osteochondral lesion of the knee is a localized abnormality of the subchondral marrow, subchondral bone, and articular cartilage.

It is a morphologic finding that may be seen in various conditions and that produces a scalloped defect along the articular surface of the bone.

 An osteochondral defect can occur acutely or develop as a result of several chronic conditions
