Presentation

Left eye trauma 2 months ago. Now referred for left eye pain and discharge. The patient didn't remember about the intraorbital penetrating foreign body during trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 9 years
Gender: Female

Axial and coronal CT scan demonstrates flattening of the medial left globe by low attenuation linear density shape object resembling gas-density projecting through the left orbit medial canthus and abutting the medial rectus muscle.

No large hemorrhage is present.

A small amount of gas is seen at the site of trauma.

Case Discussion

Based on the imaging findings without an obvious history of penetrating trauma, a foreign body (a piece of wood) was suspected in the left orbit medial side. The patient was visited by an ophthalmologist based on imaging and recent clinical findings because of the suspicious low-density linear object on the medial side of the left orbit. After taking an exact history of penetrating trauma, and double-checking of CT, a wooden foreign body was confirmed and surgery confirmed the diagnosis.
