Presentation
The patient has chronic knee pain. There is no trauma in the anamnesis.
Patient Data
The central part of the lateral meniscus is more expansive than usual. It extends to the intercondylar region and covers the tibial plateau. The patella appears elevated, but the Caton-Descamps index is less than 1.1. The Wrisberg's ligament is normal.
There is a small ovoid T1 hypointense, PD FS hyperintense area in the metaphyseal region of the femur representing red marrow.
There is a small area of PD FS hypointense cartilage on the lateral femoral condyle. This may be indicative of cartilage degradation.
Case Discussion
This case is a simple demonstration of a lateral discoid meniscus in a child. It is a complete type cause it covers the whole tibial plateau.
The discoid meniscus is more susceptible to injuries, and without any trauma, it can cause pain.
