Left lower lobe pneumonia

Case contributed by Guillermo César Vélez Parra
Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Cough and dyspnea for 3 days of evolution. Long-term smoker.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Increased pulmonary volume and patchy opacities in the left lower lobe posteriorly.

Case Discussion

The retrocardiac space is partially hidden in the frontal view, but in the lateral projection, the increased opacity over the lower thoracic spine is more obvious.

Large-volume lungs can be due to COPD; however, this is a clinical diagnosis.
