Case Discussion

An incidental finding of a Lippes loop intrauterine device (IUD). Though discontinued in the mid-'80s, occasionally patients may present with retained devices as in this instance. Controversy still exists regarding the removal of long-standing IUDs like the Lippes loop especially in asymptomatic patients. When presenting with post-menopausal bleeding, a long-standing retained Lippes loop may confuse the diagnosis and workup of the patient 1.
