Presentation

Recurrent pleural effusion.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female
ct

Massive left sided pleural effusion with extensive circumferential pleural thickening with multi-focal pleural soft tissue plaques.

This massive pleural effusion causes complete collapse of left lung with mediastinal shift towards the right side.

No evidence of air space consolidation or nodular opacity in the right lung.

No evidence of right side pleural effusion or pleural thickening.

Case Discussion

The features are highly suspicious for left pleural neoplastic growth most likely malignant mesothelioma. Unfortunately, no biopsy result was available.

The differential includes pleural metastatic disease.
